Frequently asked questions
Straight answers for individual learners using Torch Bearer Global.
About the content
- Who wrote the curriculum?
- The curriculum is written and reviewed by Kenneth Peterson, a senior manufacturing electrical engineer with 25 years of hands-on industrial experience. It is a practical, standards-grounded training resource for individual technicians and engineers who want to sharpen their skills.
- What standards does it align to?
- Every question is grounded in open, public standards and references: IEC 61131-3, IEC 61499, IEC 62443, IEC 61511/ISA-84, IEC 61800, IEC 60417, ISA-95/88/18.2/101, ANSI/ISA-5.1, NEMA ICS, NFPA 70/70E/79, UL 508A, IEEE 3000 series, IEEE Std 1815, OSHA 1910.147/.212/.333, NIST SP 800-82 Rev. 3 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, MITRE ATT&CK for ICS, CISA ICS advisories, ASHRAE 90.4 and TC 9.9, Modbus, OPC UA, DOE/NREL and NASA public technical publications, and MIT OpenCourseWare. Each quiz answer cites the public source it was drawn from. See the Sources page for the full list.
- How often is the content updated?
- Questions and explanations are updated continuously as standards evolve and as learner feedback highlights gaps. Major standard revisions (for example, NEC or NFPA 70E cycles) are reviewed and reflected as they are published.
- Will this work for my specific equipment or industry?
- The training teaches general industrial principles, troubleshooting logic, and safety practices that apply across equipment brands and industries. It is not a substitute for vendor-specific training or your facility's lockout/tagout and safety procedures.
- How is this different from YouTube or free online training?
- Torch Bearer Global is structured into progressive levels with built-in quizzes, cited sources, and explanations after every answer. You are not just watching — you are practicing, getting feedback, and tracking what you have mastered.
